dubrovnikMontenegro, the pearl of the Mediterranean, is situated in the south of the Adriatic. It borders with Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the east and northeast, Albania to the southeast. The largest city and capital is Podgorica, instead of old royal capital Cetinje. Towns and cities in Montenegro are rich in architecture, from various ancient periods that take the breath away and bring one back to the time the structures were created. We can divide Montenegro into three regions: coast, central and mountain, each one of these giving some special taste to its architecture.

Montenegro’s 293 km of seacoast have long been a major tourist destination. Attractive landscapes, picturesque old stone houses, and beaches draw both domestic and foreign tourists. The kings of former Yugoslavia had a summer palace near Miločer, more south the ancient fishing village of Sveti Stefan was converted into a luxury resort. Also the city of Ulcinj and Budva are important tourist destinations. Of course if on your way you must see Boka Kotorska bay. That is where Mount Lovcen and Mount Orjen plunge into the sea forming one of the most beautiful bays of the world. The mountains of Montenegro include some of the most rugged terrain in Europe. They average height is more than 2,000 metres. Notable peaks are Zla Kolata, Prokletije at 2,534m and Bobotov Kuk in the Durmitor mountains, which reaches a height of 2,522 meters.

National parks are: Durmitor 390 km², Lovćen - 64 km², Biogradska Gora - 54 km², and Lake Skadar - 400 km². Not to forget is the perfect rafting location Tara River Canyon, also known as the Tara River Gorge, is the longest canyon in Montenegro and Europe and the second deepest in the world. It is 82 kilometers long and 1300 m deep. The canyon is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is a part of Durmitor national park. At the end of the canyon is Lovćen mountain not far from old capital Cetinje.

Famous coast locations are Budva, Njivice, Sveti Stefan, Bijela, Bečići, Miločer, Herceg Novi, Risan, Kotor, Ulcinj. Offical currency is euro.
